“Black-Eyed” Veo Go recordings: Why they happen and how to avoid them

Overview

We’re currently investigating an issue where recordings with Veo Go may stop without any visible warning during a match. When this happens, one of the camera phones stops capturing footage, creating what we call a “black-eyed” recording, where the recording appears to continue, but video from one phone is missing.

Our team is actively working on a fix. In the meantime, we want to help you understand what causes this issue and how to minimize the risk during your recordings.

Causes for “Black-Eyed” recordings

Audio-Related Interruptions

In some cases, audio-related events can interfere with the recording process. These include:

  • Music starting from an Apple Watch
  • Alarms going off during recording
  • Timers ending during recording
  • Accepting an incoming phone call on iPhone (not on Apple Watch)

    (Rare, but possible)

Even if these seem unrelated to video, they can momentarily take priority and halt the recording.

Incoming Full-Screen Phone Calls

If a recording device receives an incoming call set to appear as Full Screen instead of banners (managed from the phone settings), it will stop recording automatically, even if the call is missed and there is no interaction.

We recommend activating the feature Do not disturb to avoid any issues.

AirPods Auto-Connect Interruptions

AirPods trying to connect to your iPhone can silently interrupt recording. This includes:

  • AirPods connect popup appears (your own or someone else’s nearby)
  • This auto-connect popup stops the recording without warning

Screen time limit interruptions

  • Recording stops when a screen time limit is triggered

Manual Gesture interruptions

Certain gestures made while using the phone can accidentally stop the recording. These include:

  • Pulling down the Notification Center from the top of the screen
  • Swiping up to Home Screen
  • Tapping a notification that opens a different app
  • Swiping up to open the App Switcher
  • Locking screen (side button)
  • Terminating the app

These gestures don’t show any warning that recording has stopped, so it’s best to avoid them during recording.

How to prevent interruptions by enabling guided access

The most reliable way to prevent manual and system interruptions is to use Guided Access, a built-in iOS feature that locks the phone into a single app.

  1. Go to SettingsAccessibilityGuided Access
  2. Enable Guided Access and Accessibility Shortcut
  3. Open the Veo Go app
  4. Triple-click the Side/Home button
  5. Tap Start (top-right) to lock the app

Now, system popups, gestures, and accidental touches will not interrupt your recording.

How to exit guided access:

  1. Triple-click the Side/Home button
  2. Enter your passcode
  3. Guided Access is disabled

Additional tips to prevent interruptions:

  • Always double-check that both cameras are actively recording

If one of the cameras stops recording, you will see a warning screen like this:

  • Enable Do Not Disturb mode
  • Disable alarms, timers, and app limits before starting
  • Unpair or disconnect AirPods and Bluetooth devices
  • Avoid all gestures and device interactions during recording

⚠️ Note: Focus Mode and Flight Mode do not fully protect against these issues.
