What are Player Moments?

The Player Spotlight subscription creates Player Moments; They help coaches and players quickly find, analyze, and share moments in the video based on a specific player. Less time spent reviewing video, more time for coaching.

Powered by Veo AI, it automatically detects shirt numbers. It uses a combination of rules to show when that player is involved in the action and provides a playlist of those moments, ready for review by coaches, analysts, and players.

Essential setup before using Player Moments

Before you start following a player, it's important to prepare your recording properly so Player Moments can be displayed accurately.

  • Confirm sides and periods: Identify which team is yours and which is your opponent. Incorrect setup can cause the AI to track the wrong players or teams. If the jersey numbers seem wrong or moments are following the opponent, check your sides and periods.
  • Assign your lineup: After confirming sides and periods, link your players to the detected jersey numbers. This helps you easily review and analyze moments.

Note: Completing your lineup also automatically updates the Player Stats table in Analytics Studio.

Follow a player

Get started by selecting a player or jersey number in the Player Bar below the video.

When you choose a player or jersey number, the video will kick off and showcase the highlights for that specific player or number. You can easily browse through the moments using the controller at the top of the video or by checking out the moments list in the panel on the right side.

A special GK item is available in the row of detected shirt numbers. Choosing this one will display moments when a goalkeeper is involved in the action.

GK shirt

This option works similarly to selecting any detected shirt number, with two key differences:

  • You cannot assign a number to the goalkeeper (GK) item
  • You cannot assign a user to the GK item

Please note that this is currently an experimental feature, and its quality may vary.

Circle the player

When you click a jersey number or player in the player bar, the relevant moments will begin playing, and the player will be automatically marked on the video with a circle.

Player info

If you have linked a player to an AI-detected jersey number in Lineup, their name and number will appear beneath the circle, making it easier to identify them in context.

Circle color options

To ensure visibility on any pitch surface, you can change the color by choosing green or white for the circle. You will find this option in Player Moments > Settings. Here, you can also turn the circle off.

Note

it is not currently possible to manually move the circle to adjust it.

If you create a clip from a moment, the circle will not appear on that clip. As an alternative, you can add a circle to the clip using the drawing tools if your plan/subscription allows it.

This functionality will appear on recordings uploaded after April 12, 2025.

Control what kind of moments you see

You can adjust which Moments you want to see by adjusting the Settings.

Are you interested in seeing Moments where the player is really close to the ball, or are you okay with them being a bit further away? Would you prefer the player to be near the ball for a longer or shorter duration? And how many seconds before and after the action would you like to catch? It’s up to you!

Note:

Changing the Settings might result in no moments being detected for some players. We suggest changing the settings to include additional moments if none are available.

Make clips of the best moments

Some moments stand out more than others. As a coach, one of these might highlight a player's development plan or your team's current strategy.

As a player, certain moments may be ideal for your personal highlight reel from the game.

No matter the reason, when you see something special, you can quickly create a clip of that moment. This lets you tag players, add them to a player profile, and download them for sharing.

Add to your players' moments playlists

Any Veo match events (such as shots, corners, and goals) that you have assigned a player to will also appear in that player’s moments playlist. Remember: assigning players to match events will also populate your player stats table in the Analytics Studio.

Ensuring the best results

Many factors can affect the outcomes in Player Moments. Some, like weather and lighting, are beyond your control, but others are manageable. Here’s what you should consider:

  1. Follow our recording best practices, especially when it comes to proper lighting and tripod height.
  2. Clear jersey numbers matter. Shirts with a strong contrast between the number and background are easiest to detect. Avoid stripes, busy designs, or overly bright shirts (like white on a sunny day), as they may reduce visibility or cause overexposure.
  3. Simple, bold numbers perform best. Large, solid-colored fonts give you the most reliable results.
  4. Our system recognises jersey numbers from 0 to 99, but those between 1–25 typically perform better than higher or less common numbers (0 and 26-99).
  5. Avoid covering numbers. Long hair or anything else obscuring the number can reduce tracking accuracy.
  6. Keep jersey numbers unique. Duplicate numbers on the same team can confuse the system and negatively affect your experience.
