Veo Cam 3 FAQ

Read this article to find answers to common questions about Veo Cam 3.

What is HDR, and how does it work on the Veo Cam 3
The Veo Cam 3 has HDR enabled in the camera's recording pipeline. HDR improves the colors and video quality in situations with shadows or bright lights. In technical terms, HDR combines multiple exposures of a scene to create an image with vivid detail in both dark and bright areas. This technique captures more detail than a single exposure can.

We use mathematical functions in Veo Cam 3 to balance exposure levels and enhance the image's dynamic range. However, to reduce upload time and storage costs for users, we compress the video on the camera before uploading it. Even though the raw image is better, compressing it still results in a better-quality video compared to compressing a lower-quality raw image.

In our cloud processing, we create a follow-cam that tracks the action of our game. Most customers use this, along with an interactive viewer. To do this, we decode and crop the video to the relevant situation, then re-compress it. This process results in some loss of video quality, which we're always working to minimize without increasing file size for customers. So, if you download the follow-cam and edit it in a video tool, you won't see the HDR tag on the video, even though HDR was used in the early stage of recording.
